Jane's Energy-Efficient Home
Jane and her partner, Marjorie McRae, model energy efficiency and renewable energy in their home near the Research Into Action office.
They have thoroughly insulated and weatherized the 1920s bungalow; installed an efficient gas furnace and ENERGY STARŪ appliances and lighting fixtures; and added a passive solar sunspace, photovoltaic-assisted solar water heating system and a 2.2-kW photovoltaic system. As a result, they use just 10 kWh per day.
The home was featured in the 2007-2008 Green+Solar Building Oregon magazine. Jane frequently makes presentations about their home to staff, and church and community groups.
