In 2012, for the second year, Research Into Action assisted Energy Trust of Oregon with the design and implementation of its annual online Trade Ally Survey. This online survey is sent to all Energy Trust trade allies to collect information on the characteristics of the trade ally population (size, market sector, primary types and efficiency levels of equipment installed or serviced), level and duration of involvement with Energy Trust, and satisfaction with Energy Trust and to provide feedback on Energy Trust’s services to trade allies. We reviewed the survey to provide suggestions on question construction and survey flow. We also provided suggestions for increasing response and completion rates. One innovation we introduced was randomizing the presentation of certain blocks of questions to reduce the average survey length while achieving a sufficient sample of respondents for all survey questions. The results of this ongoing survey inform improvements to trade ally communication and services and help Energy Trust assess the market penetration of measures or technologies of interest.
