Project: Survey of Multifamily Property Owners Regarding Non-energy-related Reasons for Installing or Upgrading Energy-efficient Products or Systems

Energy Trust of Oregon

In 2010, Research Into Action conducted phone surveys of 41 of the 107 multifamily property owners who received an incentive from Energy Trust of Oregon for energy-efficient equipment or measures they had installed in their buildings in 2009. Energy Trust sought to understand these owners' non-energy-related reasons for making improvements to tenant-occupied spaces, since the energy savings typically don't benefit them directly. A second purpose of the study was to determine whether it is possible to estimate the value to property owners of offering rental properties with energy-efficiency features.
