In 2008 and 2009, Research Into Action conducted a process evaluation of a commercial building retrocommissioning program sponsored by Southern California Edison. We conducted in-depth interviews with program staff, implementation contractors, participants and managers of similar programs and a survey of retrocommissioning service providers. These data allowed us to better understand program participation processes and the program delivery structure; investigate customer awareness, attitudes and knowledge of retrocommissioning; assess the ability of retrocommissioning service providers to meet demand for the service; and confirm savings calculations. These findings helped Edison improve the program and apply lessons learned to other energy-efficiency initiatives.
