In 2011, Research Into Action estimated the electricity and gas savings from the 2010 kW Crackdown, an energy-saving competition among commercial office buildings in the Puget Sound area run by the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA). This study followed similar research we conducted to estimate the energy savings from the 2008 kW Crackdown Competition. For both studies, we conducted a billing analysis using participants’ ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager data on energy bills, building use type (office only or mixed-use), and occupancy data, with site-specific NOAA weather data. We compared results of the 2010 and 2008 studies to contribute to the development of a yearly estimate of kW Crackdown savings.
