Project: Market Characterization and Baseline Study for Refrigeration System Operator Training
Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance
In 2013, Research Into Action conducted a project for the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) to characterize the industrial refrigeration market and determine baselines for refrigeration system operators (RSO) in the Pacific Northwest. NEEA initiated this research to inform its Certified Refrigeration Energy Specialist/Refrigeration Engineers and Technicians Association Training Initiative (CRES/RETA Initiative) to accelerate the adoption of energy efficiency best practices in the industrial refrigeration market. Our work included a forecast of the amount of total refrigeration savings that would occur naturally without the intervention of the planned RSO training program. Our surveys with the RSOs and service providers explored: operational practices; training; energy efficiency knowledge, and investments; and barriers to adoption and implementation of energy efficiency practices in the industrial refrigeration market.
