Project: Market Progress Update on Irrigation Water Management in the Pacific Northwest

Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance/Quantec, LLC

Research Into Action participated in the fourth Market Progress Evaluation Report of the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance's (Alliance) three agricultural-sector programs offered from January 2001 to May 2004. We updated previous evaluations of the scientific irrigation scheduling (SIS) initiatives and assessed the status and accomplishments of the SIS initiative relative to four progress indicators established at the program's outset. These indicators were: 1) an increased number of agricultural consultants and fieldworkers able to offer SIS as part of their on-farm services without utility aid, 2) establishment of local networks to maintain education and technical assistance beyond the end of Alliance support, 3) an increased number of individual irrigators practicing SIS on their own toward an adoption rate of 51% over ten years, and 4) increased support of AgriMet weather stations from user fees.
