In 2008, Research Into Action contributed to comprehensive process evaluations of San Diego Gas & Electric's and Southern California Gas Company's residential energy efficiency programs. For the evaluation of San Diego Gas & Electric's LivingWise incipient residential energy efficiency program, we developed a logic model and program theory and identified potential researchable issues. The program educated sixth-grade students about energy use and the effectiveness of energy-efficiency measures. Students applied concepts learned in class to perform a simple home audit and install compact fluorescent bulbs and low-flow showerheads. The program intended that these hands-on activities would reinforce the students' classroom learning and help them communicate about energy efficiency to family members.
